About the Artist: Born in a suburb of Chicago, David displayed a talent and a passion for art at an early age. He excelled as a student at the American Academy of Art... studying watercolor under the renowned Irving Shapiro, as well as receiving a solid background in illustration, anatomy and oil painting. David distinguished himself as a designer and illustrator in the commercial art arena for many years; working with all the major advertising agencies, sales promotion firms, and art studios Chicago has to offer. In 2001, he moved to California, and has committed himself fully to fine art. Though David works in oil, watercolor, and pastel, the latter is the medium of choice at this time. "I find that pastels offer me the painterly effects of oil, the spontaneity of watercolor, and the intense colors that are literally right at your fingertips when I paint in this medium. The move to California has been great. There's so much to see and do... and so much to capture in my paintings." David has established himself in the fine art field and has won numerous awards, including several "Best of Show" honors at prestigious exhibitions. He was also a finalist in the American Artist Magazine 70th Anniversary Competition and was featured as a finalist in the April / May issue of International Artist Magazine in the "Landscapes" competition. He is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and a "Distinguished Pastelist" with the Pastel Society of the West Coast.
